Hello All!

Firstly, thank you for welcoming me to the best Twizy forum!
Apologies for not being active on here before now, but I have been reading topics with much interest for some time.

A bit about myself:
I'm known in the real world as Ashton, I'm 43 and live in London UK.
Growing up in Africa, I always had a mild interest in electronics, batteries and electric motors from a young age, plus I'm a "car guy", practical by nature and most of all I like unique and different yet useful things.
Naturally, I fell in love with the Twizy at first sight when I saw some parked near to my work in central London 10 years ago.
I bought my Twizy 80 (doors included, 2012 year) in winter 2015 and plan to keep it as long as I can, even though my brother or I don't drive it much anymore (even when it is not off the road awaiting brake parts!). I mainly drive my Tesla M3 (2020 year) these days.

Interesting fact 1: having owned at least 1 electric car for over a decade and totalled 60,000km driving in them, I have never had anywhere at home to charge them where they park (it's a London thing!).
Interesting fact 2: I have never run out of charge, which on this forum is probably not that interesting. (Well, except for a planned Twizy battery range/SOH check last week which achieved 0% on purpose. I had to push the Twizy 1 metre into the charging bay!)

I'm a long term OVMS user, upgraded to v3 recently which I absolutely love. Thank you and well done to anyone involved in that!
Otherwise minimal modifications to Twizy, but that will likely change as I explore a new traction battery project, ToM/BigToM and a Ryobi One+ built-in jump-start/maintainer for the 12V battery.

Thanks and I look forward to being a more frequent member going forward!
Cheers

Ashton

Welcome!
I read elsewhere that in London there are charging plugs for EV cars on the street lamps.
Is it real, or is it an Internet fake news.

About owning and charging an EV without your own parking spot/home charger, watch this video from Fully Charged:

Living With An EV WITHOUT A Home Charger?

The charger-in-a-lamp-post is mentioned at 5m41s.

They put a brave face on it, and I'm sure it can work under some/many circumstances, but is simply is more of a hassle than having your owning parking spot near your house.

-edit-

Oh, hi and welcome to the forum Ashton! Greetings from the Netherlands. I need to visit London again, one of these days, but it has become so ridicoulouly expensive...

2020 Twizy 80 with Korea windows. I have a Twiz'O'meter which is connected to my Home Assistant. I have a type 2 adapter and a CEE adapter so I can charge everywhere. I can read and understand German pretty well, but I can't write it ;-) So please feel free to reply in German to my English posts.

Note what's in the library!
Did you choose this video on purpose?

Oh wow, no I had not noticed that!

Totally accidental, I posted the video because I knew it talked about on-street charging and about chargers in lamp posts.

Thanks!
Yes, it it true.
When I lived closer to the centre of London in 2017 - 2020 I used some of these lamppost chargers on nearby streets frequently. It's a great solution and not so much of an inconvenience. The addition of charging to a lamppost in your area seemed to be done quickly (for UK!). You could request it on a website and it might be done in 3 - 6 months as opposed to years.

It was originally operated by Ubitricity (which I think is a German company?), but is now part of Shell.
ubitricity.com/en/charging-solutions/ac-lamppost/

Also, I remember these chargers were very simple to use, just a QR code and bank card, No app or subscription nonsense. And the price was very reasonable.
It was only 3kw, but this is absolutely perfect for Twizy

Only 3kW... for "Over-night-loading" good enough. And your Plugs can handle these Powerlevels better than our "Schuko"
They look always very massive to me... like the old Drednought-Class...
